Commercial HVAC refers to heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems designed for large-scale buildings rather than homes. These systems regulate temperature, airflow, humidity and indoor air quality in offices, retail centres, warehouses, schools, hospitals and industrial facilities.
Unlike residential systems that typically serve one household, commercial HVAC must handle higher occupancy, multiple zones, heavier usage and complex compliance requirements. They often operate long hours, sometimes around the clock, which makes maintenance and reliability critical.

Self-contained packaged systems installed on the roof, which keeps the plant out of usable floor space. Common in retail, restaurants and low-rise commercial buildings because they are relatively simple to service and replace.
Used where cooling loads are large and continuous — hospitals, data centres, manufacturing. They are more efficient at scale but demand a higher level of technical competence from the servicing contractor.
VRF delivers precise zone-by-zone control with strong efficiency, which is why it appears increasingly in offices and mixed-use buildings. Installation and commissioning are more involved than a comparable split system.
Commercial contracts are larger, recur, and produce predictable revenue through maintenance agreements. The part that catches people out is that the operational overhead scales faster than the revenue does.
